Booking Through Thursday - Recent Worst
What’s the worst book you’ve read recently?
I can't think of one. That is because if I start to read a book and it is not to my liking, I just abandon it. I give it a chance (2 or 3 chapters) and if I don't like it, I stop. My reading time is precious to me so I would rather spend it reading something that I enjoy, instead of suffering through a book that I don't like.

Very true! I usually stop reading as well.
I chose The Reader by Bernhard Schlink as my most recent bad book. You can check out my thoughts here.
I too abandon books I don't like!

Probably the worst book i've ever read was The Crimson Petal and the White. I read a few chapters and had to quit. It was not my cup of tea.
I'm the same Missy. If I don't like I quit reading it.
I finish everything even if it's months later. Here is mine
Bleachers by John Grisham. Ugh. I'm usually disappointed by his endings because the whole book is great and then he just mails it in to wrap things up. With this one, I couldn't wait for the ending. It was the best part about the exercise. That, and the fact that it was extremely short.
I am posting a review of the most recent book I read and didn't like in my blog later today. The book is Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay. It wasn't an awful book but it definitely had some problems. I received it as an ARC otherwise I probably would have stopped reading it!
Missy, I like you blog and I love that you have 6 fur babies since I have 7! lol Mine are all cats. I hope to get a dog some day. I had saome great dogs while growing up. I haven't read Homer's Odyssey yet but I want. I'm glad you liked it!

Sad as it may be, the worst book I've read lately is the one I'm reading right now. The Time Traveler's Wife. I keep giving it chances and I keep thinking about how I'm not even halfway through! I REALLY wanted to like it : (
I was asked to review Chuck Black's latest a while back and couldn't get through it. Neither could the teenager I coaxed into reading the book. My husband finally managed to slog his way through it in time for my posting.

I'm the same as you. I get precious little time to read these days. If you can't capture my attention in the first few chapters, I can't give you any more time. I had to put down Gilead by Marilynne Robinson recently for that very reason!
I'm with you Missy, my time is precious and paticularly my scant reading time these days.
I make a policy of not saying anything if I have nothing good to say about other writers, so all I will say is, there are some books out there I've asked myself; "and how did this get published"? I do close them!
I'm no authority on writing but having spent thousands of hours and dollars on books over a lot of years, I'm a pretty good chooser of a great read! I am lucky in that I read every genre except horror and vampires! I love ghost and witches but vampires are too far out for me. I did read a few of Anne Rice's vampire series years ago but I was young enough to "buy" anything written back then, now I like fact based fiction the best!
"The Help" IS by far the BEST book I've read in years and I look forward to Kathryn Stockett's future works! "Days Betweeen The Years" by Sherry Austin and "Tender Graces" by Kathryn Magendie are also two great reads and "In The Land of Cotton" by Martha Taylor should be added also. So that's my opinion and I'll keep the bad books and there are quite a few, to myself! :) xoxo
Well - what is the last book you put down, then?

I have to finish every book I start.
The most recent book that I have read and liked the least was Of Bees and Mist.
Most of the time I do quit reading it, but in the case of my pick for Booking Thru Thurs, I loved the first half and only read to the end in hopes it would get better. Sigh. It did not.
Love your blog, Missy!
I just stop reading them so I can't rate the worst.I do make a note of the writer and venture very warily into their next book...
I wish I had your resolve. I suffer from some weird kind of OCD which forbids me to stop reading the book no matter how bad. Needless to say, I have a few on my list that were not to my liking.
While I agree, life's too short for books you don't enjoy, I try and finish all books, hoping they'll take a turn for the better. Sometimes, the gamble pays off, sometimes not.
Mine's a book I finished this week : Chris Cleave's The Other Hand.
The last book that I remember putting down is Hunger Point by Jillian Medoff.
I find it odd that so many people can't seem to isolate what book they liked least out of their recent reads. After all, we're not being asked to identify a Worst Book Ever.
