~More 1983~

It was another awesome year! I was a senior in high school, having fun, partying, cheerleading...and the music was phenomenal once again!
The summer was probably the best it ever was and ever will be. Actually, it was SO good that Dawn and I were reminded on a daily basis by her mother. She would say......"You girls better enjoy this summer, because you will never have another one like it....." She was right. It was the last summer of:
  1. Being at the beach all summer (June through August).
  2. Having no responsibilities whatsoever.
  3. Eating what we wanted and staying thin.
  4. Laying out in the sun all day without burning.
  5. Sneaking out in the middle of the night to be with our guys (and never getting caught!)
And....just basically not having a care in the world for 8+ weeks.

I had to start college in the fall...but that was so far away I couldn't even see it in my mind. All there was, was sand, sun, guys, parties....who cares?!?

This particular summer, we hung out with some others besides Mike and Todd. Dawn was going out with Todd's older brother Tony (whom we dubbed "Rod Stewart...he had the hair) and I went out with his friend, Bill. I was Bill Obsessed that summer. Awwww, but he was soooooo cute! What is so strange, is that I was living in NY at the time, but vacationing with Dawn in SC...Bill's family had a house in North Myrtle as well, and he was from Raleigh, NC...where he still lives to this day...It is also where I live now! Nope, I have never run into him. (I will add a funny story about this in one of my upcoming Flashbacks...).

My Guy Bill; The Old CG Pier ; Dawn & I with Todd & Tony's sister Marie
and her friend Kelly......

The Ozzy Osbourne song is from 1981, but Dawn and I listened to Diary of A Madman all summer of 1983, so it reminds me of that year......

What were YOU doing in 1983????

Remember that music well! I was a junior that year. Not my best year of high school though.

I LOVE those trips down memory land and yours sure seemed like fun Missy.

In 1983, I was working full time ata private college, had two young children, and not a lot of time for myself.

My carefree summers like yours were in the early 1970's LOL. We spent it pretty much the dame way as you did too...LOL

Hi Missy
I was born in April of 1983. You are about the same age as my mother who was 18 when I was born. I love your blog. My reading buddies are cats too. lol I am a fellow booklover I just don't leave very many comments. :)

I love these flash back posts. I'm really fascinated by the 80's which is probably due to the fact that I grew up in the 90's haha.

What was I doing? Absolutely nothing that matches that much fun! I had returned to college and most likely spending every weekend in the Florida Panhandle where my ex-husband and friends' attention had turned from competitive water-skiing to SCUBA diving. We would usually spend one week in the Florida Keys. Yet, adult worries were always looming.
Thanks for sharing another great memory. I do remember that carefree summer feeling.
How is your mother?

That was the year I turned 14.We were leaving South Africa to go live in Zimbabwe.I didn't go to school for 2 months at the beginning of that year.I went to Zim in March and got a job at Woolworths so I could get money to fix up my bedroom.I had also decided I wanted to be an actress so I got a job cleaning the local theatre. That didn't pan out though(am not an actress).I also dicovered dieting (first and last time I dieted in my life). I hardly ate anything and walked miles to school. Then luckily I discovered the pros of having a thin body just don't make up for being permanently hungry. So I think my diet lasted about a month and then I made up for the lack of eating by pigging out on hot cross buns that easter. After all of this I am now wondering was this 1983 or 1984?

I was approaching high school, wishing I was old enough to go see Loverboy in concert live and unaware that my folks were uprooting me from all my friends and moving me away at the end of that summer to find all new beginnings - which turned out to be wonderful. But that summer was a goodie for me too.

Oh - and Andy tells me that he was rocking out to Ozzy solo too - in 1981 and beyond.

1983? Settling into married and working life while the new hubby worked on a Master's Degree. We had two cars and drove whichever one happened to be working at the time so I usually rode the bus to work. We were still so young! On the weekends we spent time with friends or a big group of us would go hear my husband's band play.

Looks like way too much fun. Hmmm 1983 - I was living in my brother's basement supporting my husband and myself. He was in his junior year of Chemical Engineering school at CU. I worked in oil and gas. Played softball, gardened, and swam laps at the local rec center so I wouldn't have an affair since my husband was having one with the library and his books. Not the best year.

Oh my gosh, you were so cute!
I used to sneak out in the middle of the night too!
We lived on the second floor. I would climb out my window and jump down. Then to get back in I would climb up on the air condition boxs and into the window! it worked quite well actually.
Ahhh thanks for bringing back those memories.

I love hearing what all of you were doing in 1983! Thanks for all of the comments!

Judi: My mom is doing a lot better. She has been walking, and can eat on her own now. Things are looking up.
