~FLASHBACK 1975~



  • The city of Saigon is surrendered and remaining Americans are evacuated, ending the Vietnam War (April 30).

  • American merchant ship Mayaguez, seized by Cambodian forces, is rescued in operation by US Navy and Marines, 38 of whom are killed (May 15).

  • Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft take off for US-Soviet link-up in space (July 15).

I remember the opposition to Lyndon Johnson and the war, which helped Ford get elected. Johnson turned down the chance to run again. I was on the Washington Mall in 1967 watching all the proceedings that helped turn Johnson grey overnight. An oldy, for sure.

I was nine, so most of those events are just blurs to me. I do remember Jaws and some of the music.

I was looking through my Google reader, and I was struck by the image of the child on the cover of the Times. In 1975, I wasn't even born yet, but my parents were smack in the middle of the Viet Nam war. It's not something that is easily forgotten.

Honestly, I don't know what I was doing in 1975. Maybe I was living another life, maybe I was flower, or simply put, maybe I was just waiting. =)
