~Flashback - More 1982~

1982 was a good year. I was in 11th grade, with no steady boyfriend. I did manage to snag a date to our Junior Prom, which turned out to be a disaster. I had bought a pretty dress, and had high expectations. The dud wouldn't even dance! As spring turned to summer, I got back together with a guy that I had dated the previous summer. June and July were great...lots of parties, cookouts and other fun stuff. In August, I left to go down south to spend a month with my cousin Dawn (pictured above), in North Myrtle Beach SC. Wow....what a time we had. All of the music was SO GOOD that summer....and the people that we met!

The music that we listened to that year was Survivor's Summer Nights, Queen & David Bowie's Under Pressure; a
nd Jackson Browne's Somebody's Baby. John Mellencamp was just "John Cougar", singing "Hurts So Good", and "Jack & Diane".
We saw E.T. The Extraterrestrial in the
theater, and cried at the end. We were on the beach all day long, then out in the evenings, down at the arcade playing Donkey Kong and Pac Man...and hanging with Mike & Todd.

Mike & Todd were 2 adorable blond surfers that rode their bikes down to the beach and surfed every day at the pier. They lived there at the beach year around. We became friends with them that summer and had the best time! Since my cousin's family owned a home there at the beach, we would go down in the off season as well, and all of us would hang out together.

OMG he was too cute! I can't belieeeve I am wearing that stupid headband!

I had just turned 11 and was heading into my teenage years. I loved reading this post. I remember the music well. Jackson Brown wrote one of my all time favourite songs - In the Shape of a Heart. I feel so old now.

Vivienne: I forgot about In The Shape of a Heart! I loved that song as well. Jackson Browne also did Tender Is The Night and Lawyers In Love...I liked those, too!
I feel old too. I was 17 in 1982 and felt invincible....

1982 was a wild year! I attended my first concert - Loverboy & Quarterflash. Yeah, seems so lame now! And while I always had one boyfriend or another, everyone gave me grief that none of them were named "Jack."

What a wonderful summer memory, Missy! I wouldn't pass up that much fun up today - even the blonde surfers! Okay, that would be a felony but maybe an older blond beach man. Those were great summer songs, too. It reminded me of listening to Jack & Diane on a trip to Mexico Beach, Florida one Labor Day weekend with five other people. We had the beach to ourselves and it was great fun. Some songs were just made for summer, weren't they?

Oh I just loved Under Pressure! And I think we have Olivia Newton John to thank for that headband craze from her 'Physical' song. lol

In the summer of 1982, I had just graduated from college, was working for my dad while looking for a "real" job, and making plans for my wedding in October. I'd say you probably had more fun, but I'm sure since I was only 21, I was still working in plenty of fun time!

In 1982 I was living in Monterey, California with only the highway between my house and the beach. It was Heaven!
