~Musing Mondays - Music While Reading?~

Today's Musing Mondays post from Just One More Page is:

Do you listen to music while reading? Does this change if you’re reading in or out of your house? Do you have a preference of music for such occasions?

I have just recently started listening to my iPod while reading. I mean recently as of last night, so how weird is it that this question came up today? :) I love listening to music...anytime, anywhere. While I am cleaning, fixing dinner, driving and while I am on the computer. While I have found that TV noise distracts me while I am reading, music does not. I am finding it to be relaxing.

The time limit on books checked out is not long enough for me.
2) If you do visit the library, how often do you go?
I used to go every 2 weeks.
3) Do you have a favorite section that you always head to first, or do you just randomly peruse the shelves?
Randomly peruse the shelves.
4) How many books are you allowed to check out at one time? Do you take advantage of this?
I don't think that there is a limit. I have taken advantage of it from time to time.
5) How long are you allowed to have the books checked out?
21 days
6) How many times are you allowed to renew your check-outs, if at all?
Once, if no one else is waiting for the book.
7) What do you love best about your particular library?
I like the way it is laid out, they have comfortable couches and chairs, quiet atmosphere.
8) What is one thing you wish your library did differently?
Extend the borrowing time.
9) Do you request your books via an online catalogue, or through the librarian at your branch?
Via online catalogue
10) Have you ever chosen a book on impulse (from the online catalogue OR the shelves) and had it turn out to be totally amazing? If so, what book was it, and why did you love it? ~Yes! It was FAY by Larry Brown. I enjoyed the story and loved the characters. Since then, I have read the rest of Larry Brown's books and all of them are great. It is upsetting that he has passed away...I love his novels.

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading time…

Do you have a set reading time (before bed, perhaps)? Do you read more at night or during the day? Is there a day of the week, perhaps, that you set aside to catch up on reading?

I read every evening before bedtime. Sometimes I will pick up my book as soon as I get home from work and read a little before starting dinner. I also read on my lunch hour. On the weekends it varies...sometimes I can read all day on a Saturday or Sunday...or both! Some weekends I have so much going on that I may only get an hour or two of reading in. It is extremely rare if I go a day without reading!

Today's question is: Do you remember how you developed a love for reading? Was it from a particular person, or person(s)? Do you remember any books that you read, or were read to you, as a young child?"


My love for reading was certainly inspired by my mother who as long as I have known her, has been a voracious reader. She always had a book in her hands. She used to read my brother and I bedtime stories. As we became older, my brother and I began to develop our own tastes for books. I read all of the Nancy Drew Series, my brother enjoyed sci-fi. The bookmobile used to come to our school once a month, and I would load up with more books. We also enjoyed our public library, where we used to check out enough books to fill our book bags.

I remember as a child, loving The Little House on the Prairie series. I had the boxed set, and would read and re-read them...I never grew tired of them. I also enjoyed James and The Giant Peach and Charlotte's Web.

I am so glad that I have the love that I do for reading and books. I have my mother to thank for that. She still loves to read, and when I go visit her I always bring her a book.
